I’m conflicted about applying early decision. I got waitlisted from Hopkins last year and took a gap year. My application is– I think and hope– improved. JHU accepted over 20% of their ED applicants compared to 11% of reg decision, so I would have better odds to apply ED. But now that my application is improved, I feel I may have a better chance than last year at an Yale or Columbia (all three colleges are the best for my major). I know you can never expect to get into an Ivy, but should I apply for better chances at hopkins and forget about getting into columbia or yale, or should I wait and apply to all for regular decision with worse odds? Also, if I apply for JHU ED, should I just not even waste the money applying to the other two since I wouldn’t be able to go regardless of whether or not I get in?
I truly love JHU and it’s always been one of my dreams, so I would be overjoyed to get in. I just want to make sure I am getting every opportunity I can, too.
Thanks so much!
Hi Christina! First of all, I want to apologize because our Forum was broken and I am just now seeing this, and it breaks my heart to think that you needed advice and the Forum let me down! SO, your question is probably already answered, but I did not want you to feel ignored, so I will answer it anyway!
I would have to know more stats about your GPA, test scores, school curriculum, and compelling extra curriculars etc before I could advise on an ED to Columbia or Yale.
I would probably do ED to JHU, to be honest, because the other two schools just have way more qualified applicants than they can even accept. You can always go to one of them for grad school! Please do let me know if I can help you in any way! Stay safe and be kind, Susanna
