Rising Juniors: August College Checklist

August college to do's for JuniorsHappy August, everyone!
Although you’re busy having fun and enjoying the sun, take some time to focus on college this August.

Career Research: Think about what you might like to do for a career, and then maybe try to explore that by talking with people you know.

Test Prep: Make sure you have scheduled your TEST PREP now, and that you are planning to start it in July, August or September. You don’t want to put this off, and check for more tips/guidelines on the “Tests” page on CollegeMapper.  Super dull stuff, I’m not gonna lie, but it’s a teenage rite of passage like driver’s ed…so really throw yourself into it because for every point you gain on those tests, the more doors that open to you. Yay!

Build a College List: It’s also time for you to start your college list.  You can do this on CollegeMapper with the college search tool I built. I recommend you start with 25-30 colleges and research/narrow them down.  Be sure that each college offers the majors that interest you.

Think About Your Resume: Also, think about doing some sort of leadership this year, like being: captain, peer mentor, coach, counselor, officer, editor, founder, chair, organizer, etc etc. Junior year is the time to start gearing up for leadership, and most students do theirs during Senior year.
Yay, college!
